Cell Phone Balloon Flight I

We've always been fascinated by the idea of a video camera being carried a long distance by a weather balloons. However, those videos typically require chasing down the camera to recover the footage. In New York City, that's pretty much impossible, since the balloon is either going to get picked up by someone immediately, or it's heading out over open ocean. We solved this problem by launching a cell phone that's set up to stream live video over the cell phone network. It's a pretty low quality video but at least we don't have to recover the camera to get it! This was our first launch. We eventually lost signal from the balloon somewhere over Brooklyn.
