Roof Launch Rocket

I'm fully aware that it's illegal to launch Estes model rockets in midtown Manhattan. However, when I found out that three of our college interns had never seen one before, I simply could not let that deficiency go unaddressed. I quickly assembled a rocket and took everyone up to the roof for a demonstration. It was quite dark, so we had the idea of taping a small LED and a button battery to the side of the rocket to increase visibility. Unfortunately, this had the effect of destabilizing the rocket, and it veered wildly over the building toward Bryant park. The launch was also dramatically louder than I remember. Hence, our panic to vacate the roof.
